Kinja'd!!!

So at some point over night my GE frontloader started filling with water to  the point that it started to trickle out the front. Needless to say, I’m unhappy with the whole thing. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Mine does it too. Keeping the door / liner clean helps, but it’s dripped every day since day 1.

Lay it on its back? BTW, we have had good luck with our LG inverter washer.

I wasn’t really familiar with the idea of a solenoid fill valve failing on, but I guess there’s a first time for everything. If it had been trying to operate, it would have freaked out at being overfull, but if it’s been off and the valve just failed, different story.

One thing that does worry me on your behalf, and that is that I would guess the valve has pressure limits. It failing might actually (if you’re on city water) indicate a failing pressure regulator for the water coming into your house. You might have excess pressure everywhere - make sure you don’t. Not that high pressure making the washer valve fail would be a temporary thing per se.

Have you considered burning it down and starting over?

I unfortunately have no suggestions, but I can commiserate. My 3 year old GE dishwasher died on us two weeks ago. I spent hours trying to figure out the problem and I finally realized the main control board died and you CANNOT buy a new one. You can purchase a plethora of replacement parts but not the main control board. Coincidentally my parent’s GE dishwasher died in less than two years from the same problem. I think GE is purposefully putting time bombs in their products and not providing th e replacement parts.

I had a failing regulator at my old house - 2 5PSI dynamic, 165PSI static, somehow the hot water heater wasn’t spewing water everywhere

Yeah, last load was on Saturday, and when I grabbed something off the pantry shelf last night I didn’t notice anything amiss. It’s 5-6 years old, and this is the first time this has happened.

If anything, our pressure is low. 4-5 years ago my upstairs shower started putting out less and less water; turns out the (gizmo name escapes me) had failed and needed replaced.

I’m not that far along in the process, still at the “What the fuck?!” phase.

Probably the solenoid valve inside the washer then. I suppose you’ll need the external valve off between loads until you materialize a fix.

My 5 year old GE dishwasher just crapped out as well last week . Timer stopped advancing on it’s own and ended up smoking the drain pump. Literally just sat down to take a break from dragging it outside. Replacement arrives today.

My parents had issues with their hose clogging and their machine randomly shutting down mid wash. But between washes that’s a weird one. Have you tried running it without any clothes  inside?

Parents refused to buy front loaders because they said eventually they all end up leaking. They were right.

The main board went out on our Whirlpool stove several years ago. I think it was less then 5 years old at the time. The repair guy gave me the part number and showed me how to replace it. The next time it goes out will be a $150 repair instead of a $400 repair.

See, this one replaced an early Aughts Whirlpool toploader that had a nasty habit of not shutting off the intake valve during fill cycles. Flooded my laundry room on at least two occasions.

This GE had been issue free since 2015.

In all fairness their apprehension mostly surrounded the door seals, but yeah, that’ll do it too.

Afaik GE pioneered planned obsolescence, but at the time they engineered them to fail after 10 years, not 3-5 . Shame they couldn’t just continue to build them to last  a lifetime.

My GE front loader is a couple years old. I hope that doesnt happen.

Its th e best washing machine I ever used.

Check your filter and see if it’s clogged? There’s a door panel somewhere in the front. Have a big bucket under there as lots of water comes out.

I’m going to check that 1st. There’s been a couple loads that were wetter than they should have been, which is also a symptom of a clogged filter, so I’m leaning in that direction. We’ll see.
